Miyako, Dubai

Miyako, UAE’s first authentic Japanese restaurant at Hyatt Regency Dubai, has completely been remodeled and reopened as a new restaurant. Miyako means “the capital” in Japanese. Legend has it, that it was the centre of civilization in Japan. Pioneering the “Japanese Food” experience in Dubai, Miyako now presents a genuine taste of Japan in a modern, fresh and moody ambiance.

Miyako’s remodeled interiors are inspired by traditional Japanese elements like paper parasols, rustic cobblestone streets, Tatami weaves and Shou-Sogi-Ban, the Japanese method of preserving timber by charring it. The restaurant is divided into three different and authentic dining experiences – a private, live Teppanyaki room; main dining area with a sushi bar and an intimate Tatami room.  It also features a full open kitchen with a Teppanyaki counter, a Yakitori grill and a cozy bar offering a wide selection of Sake & Shochu.

A wide variety of Teppanyaki set menus, hot pot dishes, Bento boxes, business lunch and an assortment of desserts are presented at the restaurant. We got to try the Teppanyaki Table along which we booked through EAT APP. An easy to use online table booking app.

Our salad was refreshing which came with a unique and delicious applesauce.

A huge sushi and sashimi platter which had various meats including eel and octopus. Our favorite was the shrimp sushi. It was absolutely perfect.

At the teppanyaki grill, we were served meat, chicken, shrimps, salmon, and fried rice. The salmon stood out along with shrimps. The teppanyaki grill should have been more entertaining since I’ve seen better ones with a lot more dazzle.

For the dessert, I got my favorite mochis. It was stuffed with Mango cream and came with a side of fruits.

It’s rare that a restaurant completes 30 years in Dubai. It is probably the first fine dining restaurant to last this long. The remodel will ensure that it stays around for the next 30 years! I would recommend Miyako to all Japanese food fans!
