Lao – a fine dining Vietnamese restaurant located in the prestigious Waldorf Astoria, Palm Jumeirah. It was my first time trying Vietnamese cuisine and I discovered that it is one of the healthiest cuisines. They use a lot of herbs and balance with natural ingredients.
The interiors are pretty much how a fine dining should be – very elegant and classy with comfortable seating. They had an open kitchen and you could occasionally see the stir-fry flames which can be quite entertaining.
Drinks
We got an Amelia Rose for the lady and Yum Sam for myself. Both had a traditional taste to it and refreshing.
Mango Salad with Crab was juicy with lots of flavors. There was also papaya salad on the menu but as suggested by our server we got the Mango salad and there was no regrets.
Starters
Pho Bo, a traditional Vietnamese soup which had beef and noodles. It came with a side of condiments. The taste was bland but after adding the sauces, it was perfect.
Crystal Prawn Dumpling and Vietnamese rice paper crisps were the additional starters. First time trying the rice paper crisp and I am a fan! It was stuffed with chicken and peanuts.
Main course
Seafood Grill Platter was just beautiful in presentation. The prawns and shrimps were juicy. The squid with the sauce wasn’t bad at all!
Wok Fried Beef tenderloin was outstanding. Wagyu beef in garlic pepper sauce and veggies were in perfect sync. We ordered a chicken fried rice and some Noodles with veggies along with it. Highly recommended!
Dessert
I was craving Sticky rice and mango and was so glad they had it. Ordered it instantly! The rice was perfect but the mango was a bit sour. Still did enjoy!
Overall, the food and the service was excellent. Our server explained the dishes to us and was friendly. The prices are a little high but that is the standard for fine dining in the Palm. Lao was a treat and would definitely like to try more of Vietnamese cuisine!
