In 1903 the confectioner Antoine Rumpelmayer founded Angelina, which he named after his daughter-in-law. For over a century the tea room has built a reputation as a place of sophistication and indulgence. Fast forward 114 years, I tried the food at Angelina located in Dubai Mall!
The interiors are very Parisian. It’s an exquisite space which combines elegance and charm. The chocolates and desserts on display welcome you.
Starters
The first starter – Burrata and Asparagus Tartare was delicious. It was creamy and top quality! The salad also included avocado and green apple.
A summer special was the Chestnut soup with cream on top. It was on a sweeter note but I enjoyed it!
Salads
The salads section is named as Large Salads for a reason. We got an Angelina Foie Gras salad which came with a huge piece of foie gras.
The other salad was a Hot Goat cheese salad. The goat cheese had a strong taste to it and I did skip it.
Main Course
Tortiglioni Aarabiata had a very pretty presentation. The goat cheese sauce below was creamy and excellent. The flavors spot on when mixed with the arrabbiata sauce. I would loved to have some meat or chicken on this though.
Winning dish of the night was the Crusted Veal. It came with a side of thyme and lemon sauce. Extremely tender and loved the crust. Highly recommended!
Desserts
The Mango cheese cake was the best dessert I tried. It had different layers to it including coconut. Fabulous combination.
Signature pasty of Angelina – Le Mont Blanc. It had meringue, lightly whipped cream and chestnut vermicelli.
We also got an eclair with a berry filling in but it was kind of dry. Should have gone for the classic eclair with the Dark chocolate.
The signature drink of Angelina is an old fashioned iced chocolate called L’African. There was some pure cocoa in there topped with whip cream!
The service was great even though the place was running at full capacity. I was surprised to see all the tables full and people enjoying the French cuisine and pastries. I enjoyed the food more than the desserts which is a rare instance. Would go back again!
