The Great British Restaurant is located at the fairly new five-star hotel on Palm Jumeirah – Dukes Dubai. We went down for the Iftar buffet which was attended by media too. GBK is marking the holy month with a carefully curated menu of traditional favorites including juicy dates, Arabic mezze, and indulgent sweets.
The interiors are quintessentially British with high ceilings and lots of sunlight. The interiors are modern Victorian. I loved the pictures on the walls.
Iftar
They were serving two kinds of mocktails. Mango+Avacado was excellent while Pina Colada was too sweet. They also had fresh juices and the Ramadan drinks like Jallab. Lots of fresh fruits too!
Salads
There was quite a selection of Salads, hot mezze, and cold mezze. They also had a bread station and was serving hot soups. We got the lentil!
Stations
Apart from the fruit juices, they also had the Indian, Italian and Arabic stations with some doing live cooking. I also spotted some Chinese dishes too. The lasagne was the best out of all and so was the Ouzi.
Desserts
An excellent collection of selective desserts. It seemed like an endless array of fine sweets. I enjoyed the sticky date pudding and the baklavas besides the brownies and marshmallows.
They also had a mini chocolate fountain and cotton candy machine. We satisfied our sweet tooth a 100% and washed it down with some Moroccan tea.
Overall, was impressed with the food and the ambiance as I was expecting it to be average but it exceeded my expectations. The service was spot on even though it was a full house.
