It was our first Suhoor of Ramadan 2016 out at a restaurant and we head to JBR – The Beach around 11:30 p.m. The restaurant was Bahria and they serve only Seafood! One of my favorite cuisine.
The place is huge, with seating indoor and outdoors. You can easily spot Bahria by the Blue sail shaped lights on the tables outside. We opt to sit inside and the interior was gorgeous with white being dominant color.
The interesting thing about the interior, it was completely in sync with the Fisherman theme. There was a giant boat hanging in the ceiling. The lights were covered with nets and ropes. There even was a giant clock with boat pedals.
For the drinks I ordered a watermelon juice and Mr. A got himself a Melaine Mocktail. Both the drinks were freshly squeezed.
Hot & Cold Mezza
We got served a lot of Starters – Mostly Lebanese style
Fresh Hummus, Fattoosh Salad, Vine leaves, Spicy Potato, beans, Spring rolls with fresh bread. All of them were good.
However, The outstanding dishes were:
Fish Tajen – Hamoor Fish cooked in Tajen Pot and Seared with Orange, Lemon and Onions. Covered in tahina sauce and nuts.
Seafood Provencal – Squid, Mussels and Shrimps sauted and infused with garlic, coriander and lemon. Simply remarkable.
Croquettes – Potato rolls filled with shrimps and cheese. Deep fried yet it was very light and airy.
Main Course
Grilled Sea Breem – The fresh catch of day Sea Breem was perfectly grilled. It was served with buttery tangy sauce and costs AED 195/kg. The server deboned the fish in seconds.
Sayadeyat Samak – Hamour filled topped with brown fish sauce and served with Rice and pine nuts. Mr. A enjoyed the dish more than me! The fish was cooked perfectly and the rice flavorful.
You can also choose your fresh fish or Seafood and ask the Chef to cook it however you like it!
Dessert
The dessert was a disappointment. Bahria lacks a dessert collection to the menu. They do serve variety of ice creams. We ordered one bowl of Rose Ice cream and it was just okay!
If you are a seafood lover, give Bahria a try! You will get to experience a different style of seafood and a lot of seafood Mezzas. The interiors are lovely and staff is well trained. Skip the desserts as JBR – The beach has whole load of variety to choose from!
