We were invited for an Iftar preview at Signature by Sanjeev Kapoor. The restaurant is located in Burdubai at the Melia Hotel Dubai. We parked our car in the basement of the Hotel and it was bursting with a sewage stench! Definitely something you don’t want before a trip to fine dining..
The interior was done quite well. A lot of dark shades and dim light which made it seem more of a romantic restaurant. We sat outdoors where the lighting was very low and could not get a lot of good pictures.
The pre-starters for breaking the fast was good and sufficient. They had dates, fruits, sweets and a lot more to nibble on before starting a meal.
Starters
We chose Non veg-starters and got a lovely platter of Grilled meats. Saffron Prawn, Stuffed Chicken, Grilled Fish and Roast Lamp chop. All the items on the plate were well flavored.
It was odd to see the Prawn missing from Mr. A’s plate.
Main Course
The main course was a big let down. For the Non Veg, we were served Dum ka Murg and Kabuli Chana Gosht. Both the dishes were below average and lacked flavor.
For the veg dishes – Wok Tossed Potato & Cherry Tomato & Cauliflower – It was better than the non-veg dish but again mediocre.
Paneer papad Tokri – They did not serve us.
The mains were accompanied with Chicken Biryani, which did not taste like Biryani. The only dish that was exceptional was Dal and bread.
Desserts
The desserts served Canopy style was OK. Phirni and Mahalabiya was better than the rest.
They also served Sheesha which was not only stylish and colorful to see but had excellent flavor to it. It was probably the highlight of Mr. A’s dinner.
It was very hard to believe the food served was a signature or a vision by Sanjeev Kapoor, the Celebrity Chef of India. The service was very poor and had long waits for the courses. Thanks to the great company at our table which made our experience more pleasurable. Honestly, there are far better options for food and service in the same price range. Dine at your own risk.
