Vitacoco Coconut Oil

I’ve been using coconut oil for hair since many years now. Firstly because it suits my hair and secondly because it’s easier to wash out of my hair than olive oil which is much thicker in consistency.  If used on a regular basis it makes hair stronger, shinier and dandruff free. Although it is commonly used in the Middle East & South Asia but ever since people are discovering the health benefits of this oil, it is gaining popularity throughout the world especially in the UK and USA.

When I got a chance to collaborate with Vita coco coconut oil, you can imagine my excitement. Because Vita coco Coconut Oil is Raw & cold pressed, organic and extra virgin coconut oil which means it has no chemicals & has never been altered in any way. Their tagline is: EAT IT. WEAR IT. SWEAR BY IT.

I’ve used refined coconut oils that come in bottles which is used mainly for hair and skin. But Vita coco coconut oil comes in a cute round plastic jar, making it convenient to use. It is in a solid form unless you put it out in the sun or heat it. It is recommended to be kept in a cool dry place but not in refrigerator.

For Hair:

Coconut oil helps in healthy growth of hair and gives your hair a shiny quality. It is also highly effective in reducing protein loss, which can lead to various unattractive or unhealthy qualities in your hair. It is used as hair care oil and is used in manufacturing various conditioners and dandruff relief creams.

If you are using coconut oil for hair, just take some oil out of the jar with a spoon and put it in a small bowl. You can either put the bowl out in the sun to melt it or soak in in another big bowl filled with hot water. You can even heat the bowl over flame (don’t use a microwave). Then, take the oil on your palm and apply it to your hair. Since extra virgin coconut oil is the purest form of coconut oil, you will notice the richness the minute you apply it to your hair. The immediate effect that you will notice when you apply it on your scalp is that it will destress you and calm you down. Your hair will feel softer and well conditioned when you wash them.

In the Kitchen:

The vita coco oil can be used for internal consumption as well. Simply replace butter or vegetable oils with coconut oil in your recipes. Remember, you don’t need to completely switch to coconut oil, because then you will lose the other benefits of more traditional oils and dairy products.

You can substitute coconut oil for butter or olive oil when baking and frying. For a healthy breakfast you can spread it on a toast with a little salt. Or you can even give fruit smoothies a boost with it. I have switched to Vita coco coconut oil for greasing my baking pan for baking fish, chicken or even brownies and they taste just fine to me because I personally don’t mind the strong coconut smell at all. In fact I like it.

For skin:

Coconut oil is excellent massage oil that acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skin, especially dry skin. Unlike mineral oil, it doesn’t have any adverse side effects on the skin.

Due to its well-known antioxidant properties, it helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. For that exact reason, coconut oil forms the base ingredient of various body care products like soaps, lotions, and creams that are used for skin care.

I have been using it as a body butter. I apply it all over my body right after I step out of shower. It is solid but as soon as I apply it on my body, it becomes liquid. It gets absorbed very quickly, leaving your skin well moisturized and hydrated. It adds a healthy glow to your skin. I usually have a very dry skin which gets itchy sometimes so I have to keep on applying body lotions twice or thrice a day. But this coconut oil is so rich that I just apply it once after shower and it keeps my skin well hydrated so it doesn’t feel itchy.

I’ve even started using this on my face as a night cream since it is so rich in texture. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, making the face more elastic. It also adds a healthy glow to your face because it is rich in antioxidants.

You can even use it as a cleanser, gently massaging your face with it and you will notice that all the white heads and black heads will easily come.

It also serves as an excellent natural makeup remover. You can either apply it directly on your face and gently rub a cotton pad to remove makeup. Or you can put it on the cotton pad and remove even your eye makeup.

For shiny teeth:

These days oil pulling has gained immense popularity all over the world. It whitens your teeth and improves your gums. Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth on an empty stomach for around 20 minutes. This action supposedly draws out toxins in your body, primarily to improve oral health but also to improve your overall health. Recent research suggests that coconut oil is beneficial in reducing plaque formation and plaque induced gingivitis making it an excellent choice for oil pulling. I didn’t try it as yet because the idea of swooshing oil makes me nauseous but I really want to try it at least once.

Besides these uses, coconut oil has many other health benefits as well such as weight loss, stress relief, strengthens immune system, assists in easy digestion, improves bone health, prevents diseases affecting liver and kidney and it is effective in healing damaged tissues and infections.

I for one will be using the Extra Virgin, 100% Raw, Cold pressed and Organic Vita Coconut Oil for all the above purposes and will highly recommend it to everyone!
