Operation Falafel, JBR – The Beach Dubai

When I got an invite from Operation Falafel JBR branch, I thought it would be yet another high end gourmet Arabic Restaurant where a lot of effort is put in presentation rather than the authentic taste. But as wise men say that never judge a book by its cover so I too I was pleasantly surprised that Operation Falafel does not only have a rich and edgy interior but the taste is authentic Arabic street food. In simple words we can say that its a modern take on Arabic street food in a simple set-up with an open kitchen and wooden interiors which is brilliantly done. They even have two outdoor sitting areas which are fully packed in winter evenings.

Their authentic Arabic menu provides a few dishes with several sub-variations. They don’t only serve a variety of falafel but also shawarma and manaeesh.

For the drinks we ordered their special home made Shanina (Yougurt) which was very refreshing and helpful in digestion. We even tried their lemon and mint juice which tasted tangy and heavenly.

We started our meal with the falafel platter which had 8 nugget sized freshly made falafel served with hot khubus, salad, pickle, hummus and tahini sauce. I like my falafel to be soft from inside and crispy from outside and Operation falafel passed the test. This platter is enough for two people if ordered as a starter.

Then we tried the cheese and laham (minced meat) manaeesh which was soft and moist. Although it was a bit bland for me (wish I would have asked them to make it a bit spicy for me). It was cut into 8 pieces so that it can be easily shared.

For the main course we had a mixed shawarma platter which consisted of 8 bite-sized pieces, half chicken and half mutton. Again the meat was juicy and moist and the bread was thinner than the usual shawarma bread which was light on the tummy yet delicious.  This platter came with pickles, French fries and garlic sauce – and that’s all you need to enjoy the dish.

The staff at Operation Falafel was remarkably efficient.  They have an army of waiters and waitresses who are on their toes to ensure that all the diners are satisfied. I even noticed a cleaner who would sweep the floor from time to time. Hence I would give them 10 on 10 for hygiene.

The service at Operation Falafel was quick, efficient and very well organized. Their staff is extremely friendly and they definitely know their stuff. Overall their service is absolutely fabulous.

Final verdict: It’s a great place to come and grab a good bite (they even serve breakfast) and open 24 hours! They’ve set up in a great location and you should use the weather as an excuse to visit the place and enjoy the area around at JBR The Beach. The food definitely does justice to the cuisine, and I can see myself grabbing some food from here in the future too! Hence I can proudly state Operation Falafel successful!

Best part of the Restaurant is serving HOT bread right on to your Table! Here’s a preview if you visiting soon!
